Leaving Soissons and living the champagne life

It was a sad morning leaving soissons and my wonderful friend. Like I said we had such a fantastic time.

Train trip to Reims was uneventful. We had to change at Laon. Interesting place. Think Ipswich people and you may have it. We had an hour to kill so found a little place next door as two guys at train station were creeping me out. Walked in and the waitress was so lovely. We had a drink and there was this guy sitting at the bar. Now think andre the gaint. He was really big compared to the rest of the french, huge hands. He sat at the bar and people seemed to come up to him when they walked in and would greet him have a chat and then move on. we are thinking the m word.

Reims is a beautiful town. We arrived to a very sunny day but very crisp.

Eventually found hotel and well that is where the champagne life stopped. We have a budget room in a hotel, it is clean but well interesting. We had time to drop off the bags and find our way to Pommery for a tasting tour.

It felt we were participating in Amazing race today. We found the right bus got off the right stop, had to ask a french man where to go with no english and no french. Run up the hill, wrong hill, go across road, wrong way back again stand look at map, go up another road and see the sign. We had to be there by 3pm. It was 3pm we were running up the hill, I am not meant to run at any time especially after eating all weekend and all trip. Brett was leading and he got there first as I was slowly making my way up the hill. He was paying when I finally made it through the door, sweaty and out of breath. They were waiting for us so we all paid and went in. We picked the expensive one.
However at the end of the tour we got to taste the $130 euro bottle of champagne. Only one glass but it was lovely. Still Mumm and other ones we have tasted were just as good. So no more tours for us we will use the 30 - 50 euros on buying the champange itself.

Going one or two is good you then get an idea of the process and the caves they keep them in. Then you may as well just use the money to buy a bottle of champagne for about 40 euro and be done with it.

We walked back into town, found a lovely little bottle shop bought a bottle of champagne left it there while the chilled it for us, went off to dinner and then went back and picked it up and wandered back to our room. The tv didn't work, the room was cold and well the internet works when it wants. Got the man down stairs to try and fix tv but he had no idea. Eventually him and brett got it working. Really small tv so I watched an episode of Merlin and all the way through have been going omg there are the stairs, there is the entrance. I think brett is going to hit me soon.

Still it is only $50 euro a night, can't complain well not yet. We are sleeping in seperate beds tonight as the double bed is a small double bed so I am in the single bed. See photo at top of page to see beds.

We love the french. We have found the french people to be fantastic. Friendly, polite and very welcoming except one girl in Pariee. Maybe this is because we met the real french people (mon ami).

I miss Chateau Demarez and the lovely owners Isabelle and Gaetan.

Night everyone, off to see how cold the room gets and wake up ready for another adventure and lovely day.

Love Monique, Brett, Marty, Kiwi and Hooter
